Coming — Summer 2013

What:  Governor’s School for Entrepreneurs (GSE) is a three week residential summer camp where creative students become immersed in developing solutions to real world problems or needs. Students, working in teams, will learn how to take an idea, utilize science, technology, engineering and math skills to turn it into a product or service, and develop a business model around it.

When: The residential camp is FREE, open to all high school students across Kentucky, and will be held at Georgetown College June 9-29.  Students can apply as an individual or as a team of two or more.  Applications will be available online December 2012.

How Schools can help:

  • Encourage students to apply.  GSE is seeking creative thinkers and leaders interested in technology & business.
  • Encourage students from under represented groups to apply.
  • Provide technology resources and assistance with creation of the 2 minute video application if needed.

Principals and Guidance Counselors: We welcome the chance to come to your school and talk to teachers and students about the program. Contact:  Shari Ball sball@kstc.com  859-246-3233 to schedule a visit.

College Goal Sunday

College Goal Sunday will be hosted at 16 sites on January 13, 2013.  Please note in the past College Goal Sunday has been hosted on the last weekend in January, so this is a fairly significant change to the program.  College Goal Sunday is a statewide program that provides free information and assistance to Kentucky families applying for college financial aid.  Kentucky Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators (KASFAA), who organizes the College Goal Sunday event, wants to encourage KYACAC, Admissions Offices, high school counselors, PTA organizations and others to help promote this very important event.  Additional information will be sent out over the coming months but schools, students and families can always contact their local student financial aid office of the university they are considering attending or go to www.kasfaa.com/cgs

Anything the Admission community can do to help students, families and high schools be aware of the event, but most importantly the significant date change would be greatly appreciated.
If KYACAC or any other organization want additional information they can pull almost anything off the CGS site

Citizens First will be giving away a $500 scholarship. Attached you will find the 2013 Citizens First WKU Scholarship Application. Please make sure all applications are sent to me at the address listed, no later than Friday, March 1st. You can also find the application on our website http://www.citizensfirstbank.com/ .
