COVID19 Letter

Letter to Parents PDF

Dear Parents and Guardians,

Due to Governor Andy Beshear’s recommendation to close schools during his press conference yesterday. Caverna Independent Schools plan to implement non-traditional instruction (NTI) in accordance with KRS 158.070. Starting Monday, March 16th through Friday, March 27th, instruction will be delivered for all students during the day while at home. The NTI period could last beyond March 27th if recommended.

The Kentucky Department of Education is granting emergency applications for non-traditional instruction. Teachers have prepared materials to continue the learning process in accordance with our curriculum maps.  It is extremely important that your child complete the instruction that is assigned in Google Classroom or sent home in packets. Activities may be online, on paper, or a combination of both. In order for these NTI days to count for instruction, we must track student participation and grade the instructional materials that are completed. If participation does not occur and students do not complete the assignments, these 10 days will be required to be made up which means our last day of school will be June 12, 2020.

The first four days of instruction will be due on March 20th.  Online assignments should be submitted in google via teacher directions. Paper packets can be dropped off at the front office of each school or the food pick up loop in the back of the elementary school during distribution hours. If you are unable to bring the completed work, let your teacher know, and we will make arrangements to pick it up.  Each packet of paper work needs to have the student’s name and name of the teacher.  Work will continue to be due on Friday of each week school is dismissed.

The district will be in constant communication with families during this time via social media, Onecall, etc...  Principals are planning to do videos or Facebook Live feeds to keep our families informed. Teachers will be available every day during normal school time to communicate with students via DoJo, phone calls, messages via google classroom, video conference, etc... If any student needs help with an assignment, he/she needs to contact his/her teacher.

We are making plans to provide daily meals while school is dismissed. Parents can come to the elementary pickup loop during 8:00-9:00 for breakfast and 10:30-12:00 for lunch. If you need meals delivered, let your child’s teacher know.

We will also have pantry packs available if parents request them through our FRYSC center (270-773-4149 or 270-773-3429).

We have requested additional Feeding America trucks for Caverna households. We will notify families as soon as we have dates set for the distribution at Caverna High School. Barren Co distribution at the Cave City Convention Center is March 19th and March 20th at Munfordville Baptist Church for Hart Co. We will have a Feeding America truck at Caverna High School on March 23rd.

As of Saturday, March 14th, all extra-curricular activities, including games, practices, open gyms/weights, activities, club meetings, etc… are cancelled until further notice. KHSAA has cancelled all sporting activities regardless of season and are considered to be in dead period through April 12th, 2020.
